The award-winning Sabrecon returns triumphantly in 2012 to the University of Leicester! Held in the Percy Gee Building, Sabrecon will take place on Saturday 24th March 2012 – be sure to put that date in your diary. Tickets cost £5 (with an additional £5 charge to enter the wargaming tournament) and can either be bought by cheque, or through our online payments system. We have traders, demonstration games and a bewildering array of other entertainments – the more the merrier, so come on over and enjoy the day!
If you would like to check out and join our various presences on the web, there are a multitude of choices available to you. New this year, we now have a page on Google+ and our very own Facebook page! You could also check out the Sabrecon Facebook discussion group or check out the Sabrecon area of our forum. You can also, obviously, follow @LeicesterSabres on Twitter for updates.
Sabrecon has a fantastic variety of stuff for you to do, and there’s something for everyone. If you like roleplaying games, then there will be multiple game masters on hand to run one-shots for you to dive into. Traders will be on hand to serve all your gaming needs, whilst games designers show you demonstrations of their products. We are also arranging for speakers to appear, so watch this space for more info!
If you’re a wargamer, you’ll love the tournament we’re organising this year. Aimed at those people who play Warmachine, Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40,000, it costs £5 extra on top of your regular ticket, and promises to be an excellent time, so make sure to sign up sooner rather than later.
The Leicester Sabres are proud to be building ties with awesome gaming stores up and down the country, and this Sabrecon is no exception. The traders we have on hand this time around are:
- Patriot Games
- Spirit Games
- Tabletop Tyrant (aka Gifts for Geeks)
A variety of demonstration games will be available. We know that 6d6 Fireball are attending and we are currently working on securing a variety of other games, including a historical wargame. More on this will appear, as and when we confirm further details. Speakers are also to be confirmed!
Sabrecon 2011 was a brilliant event that starred guests such as Graham Davey (formerly involved with development at Games Workshop) and Big Bad Jon (the conspirator-in-chief of Vague, the best game society in Manchester). We had various demonstrations running during the day, including Malifaux and 6d6 Fireball (who will be returning this year). And to cap it all off, we had four traders ready to take your hard-earned coin and turn it into gaming gear, in the form of Gifts for Geeks, Vague Connections, and more!
If you would like to attend, tickets are £5 and can be bought in one of two ways. The first way in which this can happen is by printing the Sabrecon membership form and sending it to us with a cheque. (The form itself has the details of who it should be sent to and who the cheque should be made payable to.) If you would like to, you can also pay via cash at one of our meetings by talking to Hannah (you may still need the form).
Our other primary method of payment allows you to pay via our page on the Students’ Union’s website, which allows you to pay via debit or credit card. We are working with the Students’ Union to make this available, and hope that it will be possible very soon. Naturally, when it is, an update will be posted to our blog, our forum and to all the various social media websites we maintain.
