Meetings and Rooms
Regular Meetings
Our regular meetings are on Monday and Wednesdays, except for bank holidays. On Mondays, you can expect things to get rolling from around 7pm, whereas on a Wednesday things can kick off as early as 6pm. Both meetings usually run til 10pm, at which point the university kicks us out of the rooms and we rendezvous at the pub (usually, The Old Horse, one of our favourites).
Our main weekly meetings are on a Monday, and usually consist of a mixture of different games. There are always roleplaying games happening, whether it be a campaign or a one-shot that someone’s running, and the Magic players usually play on the Monday night, too. In addition, there’s often a couple of boardgames or more lighthearted games going on, so it’s a great night for all members. As well as all this, Mondays are when the Council tell the members about what’s happening in the society and make any announcements.
Wednesdays see our wargamers deploy their armies en masse, as this is our night primarily for wargaming and board games! Games Workshop’s games are very well represented, but we also have fans of both Privateer Press and Spartan Games in abundance. In addition to the wargamers, there are people playing one of the boardgames from the Sabres’ impressive collection. We have over fifty games that our members are more than welcome to take from the stores and play!
Although these three meetings run like clockwork, the university tends to allocate us different rooms every term. Although sometimes they’re just down the hall from the previous term’s rooms, sometimes they’re markedly different. Although a list is maintained on this website (check out the Events Calendar or the widget on the right-hand side of the page for more details), it’s also a good idea to check the forum for more up-to-date information on which rooms we’re playing in, both for the regular meetings and for Gaming Sundays/end-of-term games.
Gaming Sundays
In addition to the regular meetings we run Gaming Sundays approximately once a month. These are open sessions at which anyone can come and run anything. Typically, this is used to play the games that get less playtime at the regular sessions (so, one-shot roleplaying games and the less well-known boardgames), but it’s really up to you what you play! These sessions vary in the exact time and place, but they’re held on campus and usually take up the entire day.
These meetings will be announced on the forum (with varying levels of notice) and should appear both on the Events Calendar and in the widget to the right of the page.
End-of-Term Games
The end-of-term Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 battles are integral parts of the Sabres’ calendar, and are usually held over the two weekends prior to the last Friday of a given term.
More details will appear here as rooms are booked and dates are confirmed!
